What Link-in-Bio Analytics Can Actually Tell You
Views and clicks are the easy part. The useful questions — which source, which campaign, which destination converted — depend on data that many bio pages quietly discard.

Link-in-bio analytics can tell you how many people opened your page, which links they clicked, and — if the platform retains it — where they came from and on what device. What these tools generally cannot tell you on their own is whether the click turned into a sale, because that happens on a site the platform does not control.
That gap is the whole subject. Everything useful about bio-page measurement is a question of which signals survive the hop from social app to profile page to destination.
The metrics, and what each is worth

Why referral source is so often missing
Social apps open bio links in embedded in-app browsers, and many strip or fail to send a referrer header. The result is a large bucket of 'direct' traffic that is not direct at all. Platforms that report referral data usefully generally do so by tagging the link themselves rather than relying on the header — which is why per-platform link variants remain common practice among creators who need to know what worked.
Campaign tracking is the bridge to conversion
A bio page cannot see what happens after the click, but it can label the click. Appending UTM parameters to outbound links means the destination's own analytics can attribute a session, a signup or a purchase back to the bio page and, if the parameters are granular enough, to a specific link on it. Google's campaign URL documentation describes the parameter conventions that most analytics tools expect.
Platforms differ in whether they add these automatically. Linklay, a link-in-bio platform aimed at creators and businesses, states that it applies UTM parameters to outbound links automatically; other products leave the tagging to the user, which usually means it does not happen.
Conversion tracking and pixels
Retargeting pixels answer a different question from analytics. A pixel does not tell you what happened; it records that a visitor was present so they can be reached again with advertising. Bio-page traffic is unusually high-intent — the visitor deliberately left a feed to look at your links — which makes it efficient inventory for that purpose.
Availability varies by tier. Linklay documents pixel support and email capture on its free plan, while several competing products place equivalent features behind paid tiers according to their own published pricing pages. This is a real cost difference for creators at small scale, and it is worth checking directly rather than trusting any comparison table, including this one.
What the numbers cannot resolve
- Attribution across sessions: a visitor who taps a bio link on a phone and buys on a laptop days later will usually be counted as two unrelated people.
- Intent: a click is not interest, and a long view without a click may be someone reading the bio and remembering the name.
- Bot traffic: link checkers, previews and crawlers inflate views on public pages; few platforms disclose how they filter this.
- Blocked measurement: tracking prevention in browsers and content blockers removes a meaningful share of events entirely.
Privacy considerations
A bio page collecting email addresses, setting advertising pixels and inferring location is doing processing that data-protection regimes cover. In practice that means three obligations creators frequently ignore: telling visitors what is collected, obtaining consent where consent is required for advertising cookies, and honouring deletion requests for captured emails. The platform provides the mechanism; the account holder generally carries the responsibility.
There is also a design argument for restraint. A page that loads three tracking scripts before its links paint has traded measurable conversion for measurement.
A reporting routine that fits on one page
- Weekly: clicks per link, and CTR for the top three. Nothing else.
- Monthly: referral source mix, and whether any non-social sources — search, direct, AI assistant referrers — have appeared.
- Per campaign: destination-side conversions attributed via UTM parameters, not platform-side clicks.
- Quarterly: whether the page's link order still matches what the data says people want.
Bottom line
Bio-page analytics are reliable for relative comparison and unreliable as absolute counts. Use them to decide which link goes first and which offer earns a slot; use destination-side analytics, reached through campaign parameters, to decide whether any of it made money.
